Onigiri (Rice Balls)
Onigiri, sometime known as ‘rice balls’ in the west, are a great snack or light lunch for budget travellers. Essentially a ball of rice covered in seaweed with a filling, they are easy to find and much healthier than western snacks like potato chips! Popular flavours are tuna mayo (???? or ??????????) and shrimp mayo (????), but many more are available.
Price: Around 100-110 yen ($1) Name in Japanese: ????/onigiri
Where can I get them"
All convenience stores will have a wide selection of Onigiri, as well as most supermarkets. Onigiri in department stores or speciality shops can be considerably more expensive.
