Japan’s Entry Requirements for Tourists
In June, Japan began the process of reopening its borders to tourists. Progress has been deliberate but steady and, before the latest announcement, Kishida had repeatedly expressed his goal to get Japan’s border policies in line with other G7 countries.
In late September, the Prime Minister announced that, effective October 11, independent travelers from dozens of countries will once again be able to visit Japan visa-free!
For the most part, this marks a return to normal, pre-pandemic tourism. The main condition remaining is for travelers to submit either an approved vaccination certificate or pre-trip Covid test.
