Yes, though the current requirements are strict, but on September 7 the restrictions will ease significantly, making it easier for tourists to visit Japan.
Technically, Japan has been open to tourists since June, but the conditions have been very strict and confusing for many travelers.
After much anticipation, on August 31, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Japan’s borders will reopen further on September 7 (see the current and upcoming entry requirements below).
At least for the short term, you will need to book your itinerary through a travel company in order to apply for a tourist visa. This means, for example, arranging hotels and ryokans through a travel agency. Under the new rules, you don’t need to be guided, though we do recommend fun and unique guides and local experts for the bespoke Japan trips we arrange!
