New Tourist Information Centers for Japan Travelers
As stated by Yomiyuri Shinbun, Japan will invest more money into tourist information centers for foreign travelers.
In anticipation of the 2020 Olympics, many changes are planned to make the access to Tokyo via train easier.
The Japanese Department of Transport plans to open more than 100 new information centers inside the big stations all over Japan.
Tourist should use the service to get information about the city they traveled to, as well as finding nearby hotels and arrange reservations.
Subsidies shall be provided as long as certain conditions are met.
English speaking staff shall be available as well as special English lessons for all the staff working at the tourism information center. Moreover travelers should have access to a free WiFi-Service. Until now big train stations and especially Shinkansen stations didn’t provide enough English information for foreign travelers. Smaller cities usually don’t even provide tourist information center at all. However, stations are the main points for foreign travelers to start and end their journeys. Especially since Japanese train lines are efficient, well connected and usually in time.
By providing new service in English, the Department of Transport hopes to improve the over-all infrastructure of Japanese cities and promote smaller and rural areas.
